Lightning, thunder and cloudbursts - these are the essential elements of a thunderstorm. But to dote the frighteningly beautiful natural spectacle with perfection, something else is missing: the wind. As orchestral literature demonstrates, composers have implemented thunderstorm phenomena in a great variety of ways on a large scale and have preferred the use of percussion instruments for this purpose. They recognised its diverse sound spectrum, which ideally imitates natural sounds.

Description

This wind machine "produces" enough wind for use in standard performances in the pit and onstage. The intensity and volume of the wind noise are controlled by the hand crank, which rubs the rotating shell more or less quickly on the tension cloth.

Literature samples

R. Strauss "Don Quichote" and "Eine Alpensinfonie"

General details

  • Shell diameter approx. 70 cm
  • A foot on the stand is extendable for more stability when turning
  • The detachable crank handle can be inserted into the wind machine at rest - saving space during storage and transport
