Open to all artists up to age 25

 The entire competition is virtual 

 Completely free – no application fee 

 Submit unedited video recordings through our online portal 

 Recording quality (camera or audio) is not an adjudication factor.

FAQ


How do I upload my video to YouTube as “unlisted”?
Follow these instructions.

Must competitors have been born in N. America? Or can they be living in N. America?
 Competitors must be currently living in N. America (for example, during the Fall of 2026, September to December, they are attending a school in N. America).
Their country of origin may be anywhere in the world.

May I play a piece from the Interpretation piece list for the Open category?
 Yes, you may select any piece for the Open category,
including works from the Kolberg Competition Interpretation piece list.

How many total videos must be submitted to be eligible for the Grand Prize?
Two videos - a video of a performance of a piece of the contestants choosing and a video of a performance of piece from the Interpretation list.

May I enter only the Open or the Interpretation categories (not both)?
Yes, you may enter either category without entering the other. You will then be eligible for only the relevant category's prize.
To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit two videos; one for the Open and one for the Interpretation.

 Which age category am I in?
High School:
 Youngest: Born before Jan 1, 2012
Oldest: Entering (or very recently entered) college in Fall 2026 for the first time.

College:
Youngest: just graduated high school
Oldest: born after Jan 1, 2001

How many rounds are in the competition?
One round.
Your submission (due Sept 15th) is your only entry in the competition.

 It’s free!
There is no application fee.
Contestants must purchase their own sheet music.

 May I send something I recorded weeks, months, or even years ago?
As long as it complies with the video recording guidelines, yes.

May I record my spoken introduction separately from my performance?
Yes, you may record your introduction separately and edit/stitch it to the beginning of your single-take performance video.
